Raylyn’s Story

by | Dec 16, 2021 | Alumni Story

Recruited into the program as a sixth grader from Akron, Raylyn was part of the very first Academy class, graduating in 2014. By the time she graduated high school, she had already earned her associate’s degree, then went on to earn her bachelor’s degree at Cleveland State University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron. Today, she is currently an Assistant Director of Law with the City of Akron in their civil division.

Throughout her time as a Scholar and alumna, Raylyn has continually embraced opportunities to grow, lead, and give back. From working within both the Residential and Academy programs to serving on our Associate Board and attending HopeNet events, she has remained deeply connected to the organization over the years.

The Marketing Team at Hope Ignites Headquarters visited our affiliate to interview Raylyn to create her version of Hope Journals. This video and blog series shared the amazing stories of young people who have the kind of will and perseverance to do the work, to be the first in their families to go to college, to be humble servant leaders in their circles of influence, and to use their hard-fought achievements for something beyond themselves.

In 2023, she also became the second alum to receive the Pillar of Hope award at Evening of Hope. This award recognizes an alumnus of Hope Ignites who models the values that we work to instill in every Scholar.

Even with her determination and impressive accomplishments, Raylyn has always remained someone who values connection, joy, and new experiences. She is known for her ability to build relationships, try new things, and bring energy and authenticity wherever she goes.
